About the event

#jazznewbloodALIVE2020 Showcase continues the mission of celebrating new Jazz talent.

In its 5th edition, we present a diverse and balanced line-up of young emerging artists under 24 performing they own original music. Maddy Combs, Sulton Stevenson and XVNGO are exceptional artists coming from programs like Tomorrow´s Warriors, currently studying at Trinity Laban and Guildhall.

>>>MADDY COMBS Originally from Northampton, Coombs was a participant on the acclaimed Young Artist Development Programme at Tomorrow’s Warriors, learning under the mentorship of Gary Crosby, Binker Golding and Alex Davis. Her influences include saxophonists John Coltrane, Joe Lovano and Seamus Blake as well as musicians like Ahmad Jamal, Wynton Marsalis and Theolonious Monk. As part of the Tomorrow’s Warriors ensemble, Coombs has previously performed her own compositions at the Barbican and Love Supreme Jazz Festival.

 >>>SULTAN STEVENSON Sultan Stevenson is a graduate of Tomorrow's Warriors. His work draws heavily upon Jazz and African music with major influences from elements of McCoy Tyner, Kenny Kirkland, Marcus Roberts and John Coltrane. Through internalising these distinct personalities, he believes he is starting to develop his own distinct sound. His cultural experience as a Black person of Caribbean origin is also an important element in his identity. Growing up in North London in an urban landscape it has had a substantial impact on his musicianship and Sulton is excited about the future and how his sound will develop.

>>>XVNGO XVNGO is a pioneering saxophonist, at the forefront of the JAZZ DRILL and POST-TRAP genre’s. These constitute a fusion of classical, trap, jazz, drill, hip-hop and electronic forms of music. All drawn from the dynamic sounds of SOUTH LONDON. He also plays for artists: Joe Armon-Jones and Tara Lily. Plays in the bands: KOKOROKO and Levitation Orchestra. And is the band leader of the intrepid Hypernova Militia.
