"This was an inspiring #jazznewblood show at IKLECTIK - three upbeat and varied sets by young artists - Kasia Kawalek5tet Romarna Campbell Blan(c)anvas and the impressive jazz-grime collective Nihilism.
All three bands were led (or co-led in the case of Nihilism) by women – another sign, if one was needed, that jazz is no longer the male dominated music form it has often been." LondonJazznews, Joe Paice, PizzaExpress
LIVE REVIEW at #jazznewbloodALIVE2017 DAY01 by Ian Mann for thejazzmann.com
"KASIA KAWALEK 5TET...I was impressed by Kawalek’s singing and playing and also by the quality of her songwriting. These were intelligent, mature evocative songs...
ROMARNA CAMPBELL BLAN(C)ANVAS...This was a performance of much promise with Campbell impressing both with her own writing and her imaginative use of outside material. Any subsequent recordings of this material would be eagerly anticipated...
NIHILISM...This was a hugely exciting performance from a very well drilled young band who played with skill, passion and urgency, occasionally hinting at the past but very much of the present. I was pleasantly surprised by just how much I enjoyed them."
LIVE REVIEW at #jazznewbloodALIVE2017 DAY02 by Ian Mann for thejazzmann.com
"ZOE PASCAL 4tet...Still only sixteen Zoe Pascal continues to impress as both a drummer and composer and already has two recordings under his belt with Barnett and with Portuguese vocalist / guitarist Carmen Souza. His musical future looks very bright indeed, as do those of his highly accomplished bandmates...
PETER WILSON TRIO...The trio impressed with their cohesiveness and togetherness with Wilson adopting a pure, clean jazz guitar tone and proving to be a highly fluent soloist...
This was a good natured but highly accomplished display of music making that rounded off this year’s JazzNewBlood programme on a very positive note."
